As you may have noticed, 2012 is Olympics year and there have been a number of events organised to celebrate the UK's hosting of the games. Barming, Kettle Bridge's spiritual home, marked the occasion by holding an Olympic themed fair on the Parish Field, and we were invited to perform.

On arrival, we noticed that there were a few spots of rain in the air but not enough to interfere with the performance. At the top end of the field, there is a large asphalt play area which proved to be an excellent dancing surface.

For the first stand, we performed Prescot, KBC Processional and then encouraged the audience to join in with Churchtown. As usual, those brave enough to have a go had a great time.

Then Clive Bradburn, one of the official Olympic torch bearers, gave a short but interesting speech about his experiences on his leg of the relay and went on to declare the fair officially open. This was followed by some mini-Olympic activities and races geared towards the younger folk.

By now the rain had started to come down but thankfully the pavilion was open and we were able to shelter there. This was also an opportunity to have lunch and sample the wares from the various stalls. The strawberries & cream and cakes seemed to prove very popular.

The rain eventually relented and we had time to wander round the rest of the fair and admire the entries in the scarecrow competition.

Eventually it was time for our second stand. Despite the arrival of a few showers, we danced Annie's, Colne and finished up with St. Helens. We finished just in time as the rain got rather heavy but this didn't spoil our enjoyment of our a great day.
